1 Down – 5 To Go

I can’t believe it has been over a week since my last post. Mommy and Daddy have been busy with something they call “work” so they have not been able to help me with the computer.  A lot has happened that I need to tell you all about.

I had my staples removed on April 27th.   Dr. Green said my incision was one of the best to heal that she had ever seen.  They did some blood work and everything looked good so I also had my first round of chemo that day.

I previously told all of you that the doctors thought I had fibrosarcoma, a rare and non-aggressive form of cancer.  Well Dr. Green was not sure, so she had my bad leg looked at again.  5 different pathologists looked at it and 4 believe that I have fibroblastic osteosarcoma and 1 still believes it is fibrosarcoma.    Dr. Green still recommends that I continue with chemo – so 5 more chemo sessions it is.

While waiting for the tech to take me back for chemo, I saw another couple in the waiting room, who were looking very sad.  They thought I was cute and wanted to give me some love – I never turn down a good ear rubbing.  They asked my Mommy a lot of questions about me and my diagnosis.  It turns out they were waiting for their 9 year old Golden, Max, who was getting a bone biopsy.  The doctor was pretty sure Max’s results would come back as cancer too.  So, I told Max’s pawrents about this site and that a lot of you had helped my pawrents feel better and maybe that would work for them too.  I told them that I am getting along just fine on 3 legs.

Max, if you see this – hope you are doing ok buddy.  I am sending a sloppy kiss your way 🙂

Ok – back to me.  I got my Ruff Wear harness in the mail and wore it on a walk on Saturday.  You all were sooooo right.  I got so much attention while on my walk.  Everyone wanted to know about me and pet me.  I loved it!!

My recovery seems to be going really well.  The only concern my pawrents have is that my appetite is not great.  Don’t tell them but I am refusing to eat that nasty dog food in hopes I will get more people food.  It worked yesterday, because I got my favorite – McDonald’s french fries.  I hope those pawrents don’t catch on to my tricks anytime soon.

Hugs and Kisses,

Ginger

wow, congrats on finishing your first round….wish i’d have thought of the french fry gig – drat!!! glad you are such hit in your harness, i find the folks about are really taken with mine as well…issac mizrahi look out!! make sure you are getting plenty of rest, i find days 5, 6, 7 are really ruff on my belly, so get extra naps in when you can!!! your friend, gayle.

Extra naps for sure, Ginger. Holding out for McDonald’s french fries is a good idea but your appetite will get better. Catie’s is always off for about a week after a chemo treatment. Her belly was particularly bad after her last round so I had to cook up some ground beef (boiled) and rice to settle her. She loves that especially warmed a little bit. Naturally Riley had to get some too on top of his kibble.

Sounds like you’re doing great, Ginger! Thanks for the update. 🙂

  4.   Mackenzie's Mom Says:

Hi Princess Ginger – so glad to hear your recovery is still going well. Yea, usually after one of those chemo treatments, Mackenzie wouldn’t feel like eating either. Not even french fries would entice her :(. But after anti-nausea medication for about 4- 5 days, she was back to her normal always wants to eat self. But I think that’s a common trait with you goldens so when you aren’t acting ravinish, we pawrents tend to get concerned and worried. So keep asking for that people food like those french fries….pawrents will let you eat anything if it means you’re going to eat! That’s not such a bad deal either.

Hey, Ginger! We’re glad you’re doing so well! Holly also had a loss of appetite and nausea after her chemo. Our vet finally gave us some anti-nausea meds to give her at home, along with pepcid ac. That seems to do the trick for her. So if you aren’t taking anti-nausea meds, you might want to ask your vet about that. The other thing that really helped stimulate Holly to eat after her chemo last week was canned tripe. The lady at our dog store said it’s really smelly and her dogs love it so we decided it was worth a try. Holly LOVES it! So that might be another thing – almost as good as FRENCH FRIES!!
    Hugs,
    Holly and Holly’s mom

PSST – Ginger – it’s Holly here. I think it’s best to hold off on eating to see what yummy stuff your pawrents will feed you. That works wonders with my mom! Also lay around a lot so that they think you’re tired. They’ll give you extra belly rubs AND extra treats!!

    Ginger,

Glad that you’re feeling better. Those french fries must have done the trick. Now you gotta hold out for a cheeseburger!! Gotta train your pawrents, you know… 🙂

Sweetie, Mickey D’s ain’t food! Oh how about you ask for fillet mignon instead? I’ll bet you pawrents would get it for you! You are simply irresistable.

Glad to hear you’re doing well. Eat up girlfriend, the world is ready to spoil you rotten!

  8.   Ginger Says:

Oh Jerry — You are SO right. I held out today and I got me some — wait for it!! — PIZZA!! Tomorrow, I think I’m going to starve myself until my pawrents get me some nice, lean steak. You know, nothing is too good for a princess like me. The world is already starting to spoil me. Whenever we go for a walk, everybody comes up to me, pets me and asks all about me. Ah, life’s good when you’re a tripawd.

  9.   Peyton's Path Says:

Ginger keep up tricking the pawrents into giving you people food! It takes them a long time to catch on! Plus you deserve it after all you have been through 🙂 !

If you or your pawrents ever make it to Greeley we would love to meet you/them. Greeley is very close to Loveland, we have grandpawrents that live in Greeley. That would be cool!

    Hey Ginger;

You’ve got a good gig going there – way to scam people food out of your pawrents !
It’s true – we fall for those big brown Golden eyes, and that sweet, sweet face every time. Who could resist?

You are a stylin’ dog – crowns, floral lei necklaces … and, of course, the Ruff Wear Harness … always an eye-catching addition to any tripawd wardrobe. Attracts attention and hides unsightly blemishes and missing fur. Sophie’s is a sophisticated black.

Looking forward to keeping up with your progress and adventures.

Sending lots of Golden wagging and licks from Sophie,

    Tana and Sophie
