It’s Mommy’s Turn …

Even though we have never met any of you in person, we think of you all as close friends, even family. So, I decided to share my news with you. Plus, Comet said she would squeal if I didn’t!

I am having brain surgery on Nov. 1. I have been suffering with horrible headaches for 10 years, with little to no relief. I tried everything from meds to injections into my skull and saw more doctors than I can count.

Well, I guess I finally saw the right doctor about a month ago. He said I have Chiari Malformation. Basically, my brain is too big for my skull. So on Nov. 1, my doctor will go in and remove a portion of my skull so my brain has more room to “breathe.”

I’ll be in the hospital for a few days and then at home recovering for about a month.

Ginger and Brian will be in charge of keeping you and blog updated. I take no responsibility to what they write since they will be without “adult” supervision.

Gayle – Ginger may need some tips on being a home nurse. She heard you did a great job with your Mom.

Deanndre – Ginger’s Mom

P.S. Feel free to make big head or big brain jokes – we have 🙂

Feel free to make big head or big brain jokes…

Don’t be going and getting a big head now! No wonder you’re so smart.

We know you’ll be fine, and feel much more comfortable once this Charity Malfunction is taken care of once and for all. Can’t wait to see what Ginger has in store for us during your recovery.

  4.   etgayle Says:

geesh…what’s up with our human sisters??? hope the surgery doesn’t leave you with a ‘lou do’….

seriously, we are glad you have found answers to your headaches and are taking steps to feel better…there may just be a few ‘juju treats’ on the way…major healing powers we’ve been told. ginger will be an excellent nurse, she’s learned from the best, her mom!! we’re sending all our best juju from east tennessee to the land of lincoln!!

    charon & gayle

  5.   jerry Says:

Oh a diagnosis is a huge step in the right direction D, we are so glad at least you know what’s going on now. My Mom gets bad headaches too, now you have her totally freaked out. Dad says “THANKS!” 😉

Paws crossed for a speedy recovery. With Ginger at the command and “Brain” not too far behind, (Brian, get it?!) you can’t go wrong!

We send our love and warm wishes to you. Feel better OK? xoxoxo

  6.   nstephenson Says:

You must be very smart to have such a big brain that it doesn’t fit into your head!!

I hope Ginger takes good care of you and that you two take lots of naps together.

Good luck. Make sure Ginger and Brian post how you are doing.

  7.   Fortis'dad Says:

I’m glad that you found the source of your headaches and are now finally able to get rid of them. I’m sorry that you have had to deal with this for so many years.

I know you will be just fine and with Charon and Gayles Juju magic on its way you might even win the lottery while your recovering. Don’t forget your Texas friends if you do!

My thoughts and Prayers are with you

Your Texas friends, Brett and Fortis

  8.   Mackenzie's Mom Says:

Deanndre – we will be rooting for you all the way and are relieved to know that this will help your headaches go away. Hey that rhymes…well sort of. I get headaches all the time and have since I was a young girl. Ok when you said that you needed brain surgery for headaches I have to admit that I got a little panicky :).
I know this must be a little scary since this is “brain surgery” but just think of all the jokes about brain surgery like “it’s not brain surgery you know” when you’re talking about something really dumb. I have a sister who’s survived brain surgery twice (for cancer no less) and she’s doing great – even after 25 years.
We will be thinking of you and keeping our paws crossed that Ginger and Brian survive without any adult supervision. I’d be so nervous about those 2 if I were you (ok another possible rhyme?)
Here’s wishing you all the best and a very speedy and smooth recovery. Sending you lots of golden hugs your way!!
    Kami, Mackenzie & Kobe

  9.   krun15 Says:

Yikes! Did you try rotating your ears a turn or two to lessen the pressure?
Seriously- even without adult supervision be sure we get an update.
And remember the tripawd way- more treats for everyone.
Serious again- good wishes and positive power thoughts heading your way.

  10.   jack crowder Says:

Wow, I have a friend they tried to do brain surgery on, the doctors told him when the opened the top of his head, they didn’t find anything!

You’ll be in our prayers, take care.

    Shelby and her servants.

  11.   Carmen (Catie's Mom) Says:

Goodness. Deanndre, I’m glad you have a diagnosis for the awful headaches – I have to say though your head doesn’t look overly big or overly small in any of the pictures I’ve seen of you. I didn’t know about the brain needing room to breathe either – not that I have that problem; my skull, I fear, is pretty spacious with air. 🙂

Sending you lots of healing wishes for a speedy recovery.

Ginger – look after your mom!

    Carmen

  12.   credocanis Says:

Deanndre – Of course I can count on Cometdog to beat me to the Lincoln joke. I was thinking the same thing, though…how great would it be to see that party trick from a human!!

I’m glad to hear some relief is on the way. Lay low, rest, and be a good patient. Something tells me you may struggle with doing nothing for a while. Snuggle with Ginger, and you’ll be healed before you know it.

We’ll all be waiting to hear how your are. Please keep us posted. GOOD LUCK!

    Lincoln’s Mom

  13.   Ginger Says:

Thank you all for your kind words and healing thoughts. I know Brian and Ginger will take good care of me. Ginger has already recommended her groomer to help “blend in” my bald spots. You know, since the groomer did such a great job with her! Ginger is looking forward to a lot of naps with Mommy – maybe even in the big bed!

Lincoln and I can be the entertainment at the next Tripawd party – with all of our brainy tricks 🙂 Ba-zinga!!

Gayle & Charon – we need all the good juju healing powers we can get.

I’ll make sure Brian and Ginger keep you all updated. I’m sure they will not make any jokes about me in my absence.

I noticed some of you said you have headaches too. I have been through everything and seen everyone so if you want some of my medical “wisdom” (I use that term loosely) then just PM me and I’ll be happy to fill you in.

    Thanks again for your support!

  14.   cometdog Says:

Please keep us updated Brian and/or Ginger! We will worry until we hear from you!

  15.   Ginger Says:

Thanks you all for your kind, kind words. Annie came through surgery with flying colors. She is in reovery, alert and just fine. She wantd me to tell you all that she has drawn strength from your thoughts and prayers. She wore her JuJu socks knitted by Charon for her surgery, and I think that really helped. She would have brought a new quilt, but Ginger wouldn’t let her. We will keep you all posted.

  16.   Fortis'dad Says:

That’s is the best news ever! Those magical Juju socks really are something. Thanks for the update Ginger and Family. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way.

    Your Texas Friends,

    Fortis and Brett

  17.   hugapitbull Says:

Wonderful update. Put Ginger in charge of making sure she gets plenty of rest. Sending lots of positive thoughts for a speedy recovery.

  18.   Carmen (Catie's Mom) Says:

Excellent, awesome news! Magical socks and airwaves of positive thoughts helped, I just know!

Sending wishes for a speedy recovery.

And thanks heaps for the update!

    Carmen, Catie and Riley

  19.   credocanis Says:

Oh what a relief. I’ve been waiting all day to get home and check your status. Can you do any party tricks yet? 🙂

So glad to hear you are well. Keep it up!! Sending you many positive wishes and hoping for a speedy recovery.

    Lincoln and Rhonda

  20.   cometdog Says:

Oh! Thank goodness! Now we have breathe easy!

Tell her to hurry up and get well. We may need legal advice soon and would hate to get it from “Lincoln Stinkypants” above!

    Comet Wishes!

  21.   credocanis Says:

Um, Cometdog – My Mom is a prosecutor, so if you are getting legal advice from her, it means you’ve been ARRESTED (which probably isn’t too big of a stretch). I’m going to have her check your rap sheet tomorrow for wants and warrants. In fact, maybe for a probation/parole violation and then Ginger’s Mom could put you away for a LONG TIME! Life behind bars won’t be too much fun for a dog like you. You better keep that tail between your legs, that’s for sure!

Sorry Deanndre, Brian, and Ginger…Comet started it! Get well soon. 🙂

  22.   jack crowder Says:

Great news! Thanks for the update. Your in our prayers.

    the maid and the chauffeur

  23.   jerry Says:

Oh good!!!! Tripawd Love and Gayle JuJu comes through again. Yipee! Hope those pain drugs are working and you’re feeling reallllllllly swell Annie. We’re all thinking of you. xoxo

  24.   Mackenzie's Mom Says:

We are so happy to hear this news! Yea for the juju socks too! We will still be keeping you in our prayers and hope for a very speedy recovery. Thanks for the update. Sending more pawsitive healing thoughts your way and lots of golden hugs too!

  25.   etgayle Says:

annie, brian and ginger, we are so relieved and happy to hear the surgery went well – glad our ‘juju’ could help (most likely the illini colors….). now don’t neglect those medicinal naps!!! they are vital in the healing process!!! our best to you all!!

    charon & gayle

  26.   opie/mattie Says:

Glad to hear you are on road to recovery!

  27.   Lisa Says:

Oh, I am so happy for you. Surgery is always scary (my husband has had bunches of them on his back) It’s always a relief when things go well. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

  28.   genkimari Says:

Annie, Guess you’re just too smart for your own good! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

    Mari & Mika the Wonderdog

  29.   Ginger Says:

Wow. We just can’t get over the support we have received from you all. Of course, we shouldn’t be surprised. This little group pf ours has grown to be an important part of our lives. I just wanted all of you to know that my Mommy is home and resting comfortably. But then I think the drugs have something to do with that. Something about Norco and Valium. I swear my Daddy is speaking Latin. I guess my Mom just had to let her brain breathe. There will be no living with her now that medical science has proven that her brain really was too big for her head. I will try to make sure my Daddy and I keep you updated.

    Sincerely,
    Ginger

  30.   Ginger Says:

Sorry for the quick addirional post, but my Daddy was looking back at some of your comments. I know, I know – like he had something better to do in the last week or so. He isisted that I respond to ET Gayle about the “Lou Do” reference. It has probably been 15 years since Lou Henson has coached the Fightin’ Illini basketball team, but it is nice to see we are not the only ones to remember the good ol’ days!

  31.   indi Says:

Thinking of you, Deanndre. Did you know Lincoln had brain surgery, too? I saw him last weekend and he is doing great. I hope a pain free life is on its way for you.
