Pre-Surgery Update

Thank you so much to everybody for your kind words and thoughts. Ginger is in surgery right now, and we are anxiously awaiting news. In the meantime, here’s what our day has been like so far. This morning Ginger was running around and jumping like a puppy. It was almost like she wasn’t sick. Then, we took her to the vet, and when we were a few minutes away, we had to stop short because the car in front of us hit the brakes. Ginger braced herself, and although she didn’t fall or anything, she started to whimper. When we got to the vet, we found out that she had broken her cancer-riddled right leg. Strange to think she’s so strong that she waited until we were almost at the vet’s before she showed any real signs of a problem. The good news is that this did not change the treatment whatsoever. She was already scheduled for the amputation today, and we went forward with it. Even with the pain she was in, when she was being examined by the vet tech, she was wagging her tail and giving kisses to everybody present. Only a Golden can still be so sweet when they are hurting so much. When she was being wheeled down the hall to pre-surgery, she was laying on her side with her tail just wagging away. We will update you all once we know anything. We are trying to be pawsitive.

Oh, sounds like the amputation was meant to be. She will feel so much better afterwards 🙂 I know how hard the waiting can be – looking forward to the update!

Wow, what a day! Poor Ginger… at least you couldn’t ask for a better time for her leg to break, if it that’s when it happened. She sounds strong and should recover quickly. Best wishes for that!

Wow Ginger, that is pretty amazing how your fracture happened. Talk about timing. Ouch. Glad you and your pawrents are alright otherwise. Scary stuff!

That must have hurt so bad, but it’s good that you’ll be getting rid of that bum leg today. You are in our thoughts, keep us posted OK?

    Poor Ginger,

I’m sorry that she broke her cancer leg on the way to the vet. My Jake also broke his leg, and that’s how we found out about his bone cancer… Hoping Ginger does well with her surgery and has a speedy recovery… Be prepared for the first 2 weeks… as they are the hardest…

Looking forward to reading more about Ginger and her progress!! Post some pictures of her when you get a chance!

I think by the fact that Ginger broke her leg may be a sign that this amputation was meant to be (I know that sounds strange but in a weird sort of way it confirms your decision that you’re doing the right thing.) We found out that Mackenzie fractured her leg after her amputation when they did the biopsy on it. Had I known, we probably would have made our decision sooner and not questioned it the way we did, as we had no idea how much pain she really was in.

We will be keeping our paws crossed for Ginger. Bet she’ll do great and you’ll see her tail wagging as soon as she comes out of surgery!
